Storm season? Oh yes, that...
Yesterday we were all geared up to leave for Virginia Beach to participate in the Neptune Festival on the boardwalk. Since Neptune IS the guy for the occasion, he chose this occasion to throw some excitement into everybody's schedule.
With the storm moving in, setup for the show has been postponed, so we left early this morning instead. Getting here was a trip that took forever in my mind - but I spent most of the time snoozing or just thinking with my iPod headphones on. Inspiration usually leaps out of quiet times for me, so this was a nice creative drive in a sense.
When we got here, the wind was quite impressive - dwarfed by the surf of the ocean, though. Quite the tempest out there, really. And we got first row seats to enjoy the show, even. Our hotel room faces the ocean, and the rain and wind are pelting the sliding door to the balcony. We're right above our booth space for the show, so we can actually watch our booth blow over, once we do get it set up.
Nothing as exciting as watching your livelyhood fly away, I've been told. I can hardly wait...
Last weekend we were in Greenville for the Art in the Park show, our third year there.
The weather was fabulous! The one downside was the fact that the organizers had to move the show off of Main Street to the baseball stadium park - not really a good move, since the Art in the Park downtown usually brought in a whole bunch of people that were just out at the Reedy River to enjoy the sunshine. All those folks missed out on the art...and even locals didn't know that the show had been moved. All that led to some not so great sales for us - still good for not having to travel and pay hotels and restaurants, but about half of what we did last year on Main Street. Ah well - we made up for the disappointment by having a special visit from my brother from Switzerland for the weekend. The kids really enjoyed being able to get to know him and to hang out with him.
And, another candy moment for me was getting to meet a good friend I've only known through emails, along with his parents - all of them great people and loads of fun. Most of the time, a bad show is made good just by getting to meet special people like the Knox family. Such was the case this time as well...So we'll definitely be back next year, if only to see who will be there as well.
Now I'm off to the window again - there's a lightning show going on!
