Ahhh - Summer!
A bit too warm, a bit too humid, but all in all, just right!
We're enjoying some time off this summer - only a few smaller shows inbetween to keep us in the groove, so it's been nice not having to run everywhere we go.
The studio got a major clean-up (since a new studio is still very much a dream in the stars for now), some new paintings are emerging, and the day of our new kitchen installation is looming like a rainbow-colored tornado cloud.
But just for fun, here are a few pictures of our summer so far - not in any specific order, though (artists' brains don't usually work in a very ordered fashion, in case you hadn't noticed):
We start off with a trip to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where the Sheep Incognito participated in the Under the Oaks Art Festival at the Whalehead Club - the most beautiful setting we've been in so far...(all pictures were taken with my iPhone and are brought to you unedited - I just love Macs...maaaahvelous machinery, that)
Amazingly enough, the Sheep Incognito booth was awarded second place at the show - thank you to the organizers for being such gracious, friendly and competent people! The sheep were all flustered with pride...
On the way to the Whalehead club, our van's transmission broke down (again - second time inside of 6 months), and while I was on the phone with Peter discussing what to do about it, and running the whole gamut of who goes where first, and where do we find a truck to reload the trailer into, I looked out my rear-view mirror and saw the beautiful colors of the lights of a police car behind me...supposedly, I was going 76mph in a 55mph zone - though I highly doubt I would be crossing those railroad tracks I crossed right before he pulled me over at near 80mph. I'm crazy, but not insane...
Ah well - I've learned my lesson: the police is ALWAYS right, no matter how little proof they have of your guiltiness, and even if you are innocent, and might be able to prove it, nobody would listen, because the money they milk out from you goes towards padding the chairs of the judges, the lawyers, and the police officers in that county (The lawyer told me as much...he called them the "Highway Mafia" - so much for liberty and justice for all. Gotta love this country more and more each day...now, if only we had a way to actually have our votes counted and be worth the paper they add them up on, we might have a chance of regaining some dignity for our nation - but that seems a bit farfetched at this point).
After we left the Outer Banks, we headed down to Tampa, Fl for the HGA Covergence 2008 conference and some much needed vacation. We did a few days of hot, muggy, crowded, overpriced Disney parks, and some short stays at a very hot beach, while also doing the conference show on the side (note to others contemplating this show as a venue for selling your wares: don't. Not worth the money or effort).
The highlight of the trip was our visit to the Ringling Museum of Art - worth every penny to see some original Rubens paintings, and the buildings and grounds are stunning.
here's some pictures:
The architecture there is absolutely stunning - if you need a taste of Mediterannean flair, that's most certainly the best place in the USA to find yourself...just make sure you don't schlepp your kids through the museum, unless they love looking at art - otherwise you'll leave highly frustrated.
The circus museum is nice for the kids, but I wouldn't go there just for that...still, a beautiful afternoon for us.
So that was part one of our summer...next post will be a bit of a home on the range type thing.
We did find out one thing:
Home is not the worst place to be.
