Sheep Incognito Blog

Off We Goooo! The sheep have finally found a voice - a smorgasblog of mutton so-to-speak. So come along for a rather bumpy, slightly whacky and always (well, hopefully) entertaining ride through the realm of sheep. Of course, blogs are the new cafe-connections of the net - drop me a line, share your thoughts, or just be a silent observer. Don't spill the coffee on the sheep though, they shrink ...

Sheep Incognito happy dancing in Alpharetta, GA

Posted by Conni Togel in studioshoppingsheeplivinglifefriendsartist lifeart showart festival

This past weekend was spent in Alpharetta, GA at the yearly Alpharetta Street Fest - one of my favorite outdoor shows (that is saying a LOT - outdoor shows are not my favorite pastime, to say the least). The weather was picture perfect - warm, slightly breezy, sunny, and simply put:perfection.

And the people that stopped by my booth were awesome as well - we got to see many of our previous visitors again, reconnect with friends, and talk with Sheep Incognito Harborers (that's like the cherry atop a huge ice cream sundae for an artist - meeting the people that live among the artwork they are giving a home to).

None of them said that they've burned the artwork they purchased from me last year, so that was a good sign. Some of them have given the sheep a place of honor - which probably makes that particular sheep all giddy with pride (it does that for me anyway...sheep are even worse about that kind of thing...). And others stopped by and decided to adopt some sheep for their homes, or the homes of people they wanted to punish, uh, oops, REWARD :)

Either way, it was a fun show - outstanding artists there, and the show organizers did a fabulous job with everything.
My only gripe - portapotties. Are not considered a good thing. Ever. Don't care what brand, what size. They are always a turn-off. Sheep hate portapotties - rightfully so, I might add. There is no space for them to do their little tail shaking thing, it doesn't smell like hay, and the floors usually pose quite a danger for hoof-rot. I'm sure many of you can sympathize with the sheep - I know I can...yuck. Portapotties - doubleyuck.

In the age of space travel, it's rather surprising they haven't come up with some system that eliminates those issues for those particular implements. Maybe I'm just too much of a thinker - but I THINK it wouldn't make that much of a difference to add more space by making them slighlty larger. I also THINK it would enable a larger tank for fresh water for hand washing. I also THINK it can't be that hard to find somebody willing to earn some serious money to keep the thing clean for a day or two. And I THINK there is such a thing as a sanitizing spray/air cleaner to be bought somewhere. Heck, if they can get a kitty litter box to smell like roses, this thing shouldn't be such a problem. I THINK.

Of course, at almost every outdoor art show I get proven right: I AM too much of a thinker, so the portapotties are still the same throughout the years...

They really should ask the sheep their opinion - they just might start THINKING themselves...

Anyway, back to the show - as usual, the had some pretty good live music, mixed with kids' dance groups.
This was the first show where we used the new double booth tent -it's huge, 10'x2' Trimline thing. I was really worried about setup and tear down times, since we usually have kids with us and they have to be in school the next day. But it turns out, it's almost the same time, except for the fact that we have more stuff inside the tent that needs to be taken down. But it allows for tall panels and lots of light through the roof - making it nice and airy, instead of dark and stuffy.

It was quite a successful show, so we'll probably be there again next year, if all goes well.

Thank you to everybody that stopped by and gave a chuckle to the sheep. And of course a special thank you to those of you that now have a sheep living on your walls!

Glad we both had successful shows in the Atlanta area. I would encourage you to try Barefoot in the Park next year though. NOT PORT-A-POTTIES!!! Artists hospitality room stocked with free drinks including cold beer.
