Ha - you probably thought that was the end of my summer...but ooooh no, there is more...
but I'll spare you most of the details, just a short list of what I've been doing:
• cleaned and re-organized my studio space (ashes to ashes, dust to dust - for sure, somebody dead was there....I've never seen a place that dusty, except for the woodworking place I used to work at).
Before:

After:
Much better now...I can actually pretend to be throwing some dance moves around out there...
• Fed some abandoned, starving kitties we found out in our dog pen area
• Attended the Fine Art and Master Crafts Festival in Banner Elk, NC

The highlight of the show was our next-both-neighbor's dog: the lawnchair he was tied to fell over and scared him half to death, so he tried running away from it. He hauled butt down the aisles, with the chair in wild pursuit of him, knocking people and a display shelf on his way, with his owners running after him yelling "help, stop that dog!" - truly a world's funniest videos moment...
Of course, as always, the Banner Elk show is our time to catch up with our bestest artist buddies.
Who wouldn't miss this smile (or is that just a dirty grin, that there? It belongs to Bennie Waddell of Greenville, SC - funnest guy on the art circuit) - Either way, it was a blast seeing everybody again.

• We bought a new ram lamb (which is where the "Ramalamadingdong" of Beachboys fame comes from, I'm sure), who was aptly named "Artemis" by my kids. Don't ask me why...

• Started a few new paintings. Here's a few exerpts from one of them (it's a large one - something like 72" x 24")
It's progressed a little from there, but it being such a large piece and having sooo many sheep, it's easy to get frustrated trying to get every one of them right. I'm used to working rather speedy, since my painting times are usually 10 minutes here and there lately. For now I've put it aside, but I do hope to get it done before the serious show season starts in September (HA! this week I leave for San Antonio, when I come back we're starting construction on the kitchen, the kids start school, and all hell breaks loose...maybe someone is interested in buying a half finished piece? If you're interested, let me know.)
Ah, the title, almost forgot: Polling Place, Oil on Canvas, 72" x 24", Price depends on how much paint I've put on it already at that point...
• Wrote a book. Yep, now I'm an author as well - be VEEWWY AFWAID! As you know, I'm not really a good writer, so this really is rather frightening to have something I wrote actually occupying paperspace somewhere.
It's the long awaited Sheep Incognito somethingorother book (don't have the title settled just yet) - it should be ready for publishing. It's not. Yet. But it really should be...in fact, it needs to be done right around the same time that this "(HA! this week I leave for San Antonio, when I come back we're starting construction on the kitchen, the kids start school, and all hell breaks loose...maybe someone is interested in buying a half finished piece? If you're interested, let me know.)" happens.
So, nope, Summer is FAR from over for us here - but boy, will it be nice when it is.
Here's your game for the week: Gimme a list of what you did this summer - let's share our insane moments in life - they're bound to be something interesting for others not in attendance, and a smile shared is always the best kind.
