After the stormy Neptune Festival in VA Beach, we dashed home for a quick reload of material, and headed to Louisville, KY for the St. James Court Art Fair - one of the two best art shows in the nation.
Even though many had warned us of chaotic setups, etc., all went just perfect - setup was a breeze, the organizers and volunteers were outstanding, the weather absolutely maaahvelous, and the visitors seemed quite happy to have us there.
Even though we were in the "inner court" (basically, smack-dab in the middle of the surrounding booths, and rather hard to locate, if you don't know where to look for it), we still had a fabulous show, and sold out of quite a few things the very first day. We were able to restock from some things we still had at the hotel that evening, which helped a lot.
The crowds were unbelievable - all weekend long. Yet, our booth neighbor mentioned that that Sunday was slower than he had ever seen it in the past 12 years, down to about 30% of the usual visitors (how that could be possible is beyond me - there already was almost no space left to walk the walkways....) - He said usually there is no space to even walk - just lift your feet and go with the flow...
But we were glad circumstances were not quite like that this time around. We were sooo busy, that I don't know if we could have handled more traffic at all.
(This was quite early in the morning - by about an hour later, it was pretty much impossible to walk there at all...)
- and this was the widest street section of the show. The section we were in was about half that width for a walkway.

We met all kinds of great people there - my favorite part of any show anyway. Teachers, Pilots, Kids, Punks, Russians, Danes, Moms, Soldiers, News Anchors, Cooks, and everything inbetween and around them.

Along with all the visitors, there were some outstanding artists there - lots of interesting, and very unique work there. No wonder people fly in and stay for the weekend - it really is one of the best shows I've ever seen.
And there was an acapella singing group, just as outstanding as the rest of the show (unfortunately, I did not catch their names...)

Though many seem to not agree with me: I love Kentucky! Can't wait until next year - should be a blast!
Next week we're off to Chantilly, VA for the Gilmore Craftsmen's Classics at the Expo Center, and to Rhinebeck, NY for the Rhinebeck Sheep and Wool Festival - both on the same weekend. Peter (the art pimp and hubby) will be manning the booth in Rhinebeck, and I'll be in Chantilly, though I do wish I could be in both places at the same time.
