As peaceful and serene as this painting is, it also holds another metaphor in it that is not obvious at first glance. Asleep in the Light is not only about enjoying what little ray of light there is on a dark night but also about sleeping calmly while there is a storm brewing right behind you. There are many ways to interpret this one – I chose the quiet, serene scene, to make the point that it IS possible to have peace, even with a storm looming.
