Ah, the joy of painting without interruptions - if we don't count the six phone calls, one school kid pickup, and lunch, it really was quite the productive day today. First on the project list was finishing up a new painting for the Norcross Art Fest - the other one I had started introducing a few posts back was not harmless enough for a family event. So the new one is a conglomeration of sweetness - should be great for the kids and moms at the festival, I would think. Then on to new things - a smaller piece I had started two days ago with a preliminary sketch in burnt umber.
The background went from white to pthalo blue and got a white wash over it to tone it down and even out the brush strokes. At first I wanted to just have a ladybug sitting on the sheep's nose, but for the situation he finds himself in, a bird had to be in the picture.
As things progressed, there were feathers, flowers, ladybugs and clouds appearing - they all play an important role for the painting: they add color! And because the sheep is just as much out of place as our current regent is out of place in some places far away, he too needs to hang on to his crown- it's just a matter of time before he drops it though...hopefully a more worthy sheep will be below to catch it and do a better job than the previous dictator sheep; maybe then the birds can reclaim their nest and live in peace again.
Title: Out of Place Size: 11 x 14 Media: Acrylic on Canvas
I'll have better pictures of the finished piece by Monday - it's been raining here, so the light is really bad - these were taken with my iPhone in the kitchen.
