Lately it seems life has lost a lot of it's sparkles for many people - anybody you ask will know all kinds of things that seem to have changed to make life a bit less fun and a bit more tedious. I beg to differ - it's not that life has changed that much: it's more our perception and our angle on what has changed that provides us with enough material to make us miserable into all eternity. So here are the sheeps' tips on how to be a happy sheep - ehhh, person: • watch the sunset instead. Have you seen and heard the latest? No matter what or where, the media is full of negativity and scary stuff. Personally, I don't think there is more of it than there used to be - it's just what sells, and the media is intent on keeping their paychecks rolling...The sheep have never been much into fads - and even if they did have access to a tv, chances are they'd find the pattern on the wallpaper much more intriguing than the tv. They're right... Having eaten half a bug is scary enough - why try scaring yourself more by watching it all? • eat grass. Well, not JUST grass....but honestly: much of the stuff packaged in yellow boxes in the cooler section of the grocery store has very little to do with food, and more with chemicals, artificial flavors and stuff nobody knows where it came from that has been declared to be food. What ever happened to real food, like a piece of fresh baked bread with real butter on it? Or a glass of real Juice that was not concentrated and then watered down and mixed with a chemical concoction? Or a snack that does not come out of a plastic wrapper? Grass is actually starting to look pretty good nowadays - in the meantime, try some good food. It's good for your body and good for your soul. • stare at stuff. Sheep do quite a lot of this. It educates them. Looking from their perspective, those really high electric fences are just a brainfart of those insane things walking around wrapped in cloth on two legs - try explaining the purpose of telephone lines to them, and they might actually start snickering at you... Life really does have ridiculous angles - taking the time to wonder about them is what can get your giggles going any ole time. Having trouble finding ridiculous things to stare at? Go meander around a meadow on all fours for an afternoon - you might not find anything for yourself to snicker at, but at least the neighbors will get a good laugh...nothing like spreading joy around you!
• join the flock. Happy sheep are never alone. They do face different directions while standing around eating grass - but they are together, even if one of them tips over and has a hard time getting up. Take a hint: if we were all meant to go through life alone, we'd each have our own planet...and togetherness is something that actually makes you happy (make sure you're hanging with the right flock though - nothing like trying to fit into a flock of sharks as a sheep...find people with happy outlooks on life, and it will spread to you and others as well). • share the wool. Each sheep serves a purpose. And quite a few of them have enough wool that will make sweaters, socks, blankets, gloves, potholders, mulch, mattress fillings etc.. Others can feed a family. And still others just stand around and make the landscape look pretty and peaceful. Whatever the purpose - each one has something to share with the world around them. Knowing that is what keeps them happy. Share your purpose with others - it's kind of why we're here together. • say baaaaa. Of course, sheep can mean different things when they make a sound - but in general, no matter what the meaning, it's all baaaa to me. Happy? Baaaaa Sad? Baaaaa Glad? Baaaa Angry? Baaaaa you'll notice a pattern here - no matter what's thrown at them, the reaction is pretty much a standard happy sound. Even when they are sitting on their backsides getting shorn, unable to fight back, they will make the same sound: Baaaaa. Just keep Baaaaa-ing, and everything else will turn out all right in the end. So there you have it - a sheep's reason to be happy, and it's method of staying ahead of hysteria...if only we could learn from them. Of course, they are always open to suggestions - add your own tips for happiness, and we'll pass those along to the wooly things outside in the meadow.
