'S Not Funny... PDF Print E-mail

woke up with a head feeling like the size of a pumpkin - same contents, as well...yech.

Trying to stay in bed when sick seems to have some telepathic thing attached to it that notifies everybody in my address book that it's time to call, visit, or whatever.  So instead of staying in bed as planned, at 8:30 the phone rang - with Mom reminding me that they would be coming over around 10:30.

At 9 my oldest daughter called from school with a pitiful voice, asking me to pick her up since she wasn't feeling well. So out of grubby loaf-around clothes into halfway decent, walk-into-christian-school-office-without-looking-like-a-homeless-artist-clothes, drive 25 minutes there (why do people here drive 35 in 55mph zones? It must have some cultural background here in the area, but I've yet to find out what that might be), 15 minutes back. Discover that the guy to give us a quote for siding on the house has arrived in my absence - so instead of dropping half-dead into bed, I wander around the house freezing my assets off in the bitterly cold wind. Just as he leaves the house, my dad pulls up with an aquaintance of his that we wanted to ask for input on how to get my studio/sunroom/prospective livingroom insulated or liveable. After 15 minutes, my mom pulls up with that aquaintance's wife, just to join the fun here.  So more meandering outside with troubleshooting, idea collecting, and freezing of pinfeathers...

On the bright side - Mom & Dad invited us all to their house for  some german lunch: Spätzle,Pork Roast, Red Cabbage,Corn, Salad, and some killer coffee afterwards. But by the time lunch was over, so was I - I did manage to go get a short rest upstairs, just enough to tie me over to drive and pick up the middle child at shool and drive home.

So painting was rather out of the question today - the only effective thing managed was washing half a fleece of Mary's wool. The upside to that: sheep don't smell too grand when they are dry - they are a LOT worse when wet. Or grumpy.(Which is why I tell all my patrons to make sure and smile at the sheep pictures they buy every day - they would most likely NOT enjoy the smell of an unhappy sheep). Of course, have a stuffy nose has it's advantages in those situations....My family was less than thrilled with having the house smell like a stable, but I don't really mind today. Hopefully the wool will be dry by the time this cold is over and done with...but from what I can tell so far, it is by far the finest wool from the five gals out there. There isn't alot of it, because it's what was left after she had baby Pinky - she had lost quite a bit of her fleece due to stress during pregnancy (or whatever else might have caused her to go around her tummy during that time).

Can't wait to try and spin some of it - I'll post some of that as soon as I've gotten to it.

Tomorrow I hope to be able to paint a bit. Show season is starting up again, so I need material for my friends to view when they come to visit in my booth.
